What to do with a glut of apples?

Like many of you this Autumn, our member Rachel is having a surplus of apples at the moment, and there are only so many apples you can physically eat. Rachel was so kind she decided to give the apples away to the members of our community and we could not miss this chance.

This season is also great for brambles. They are everywhere! These berries are fantastic to add into your apple crumble.

If you are not sure what to do with all those apples, we are here to help: try our Apple Crumble Recipe.

You can be creative with this recipe and swap ingredients or add some extras.
 Ingredients:

-80g oats
-80g almond flour (optional, you can use milled oats or milled walnuts)
-100g buckwheat flour ( again, you can use only oats, but we love buckwheat as it has a lots of goodness.)
-3 heaped tbsp solid coconut oil ( do not melt)and you can use also nut butter or vegan block.
-Pinch of salt
-2tbsp maple syrup or honey
-Apples (5-6)
-1tbsp of cinnamon
-Raisins ( optional)

Method:

-Preheat the oven to 180C
-Mix the oats and both flours together with the coconut oil.
– Rub it with your fingers into a dry crumble
– Add the salt and maple syrup
– Mix and rub until you have larger less dry crumbles.
– Taste the mixture to see if you have used enough of salt. It should taste great even uncooked and definitely not bland.
-Cut apples into small pieces.
– Put them in a bowl and sprinkle with cinnamon, add raisins then transfer to the prepared dish.
-Spread the crumble mixture evenly on top of the apples and bake for about 25-30 min, until golden brown.

You can sprinkle with some almonds or seeds if you like too.

You can serve it with vanilla yogurt and this way it makes a fantastic breakfast too.

We are looking forward to see your apple crumble and sharing your ideas with us. X
